M.A. Sociology First Year

In the Master’s Degree Programme in Sociology (MA Sociology) Guidelines, it has been revealed that you need to fulfil one Tutor Marked Assignment (TMAs) for each of the courses.
In these tasks, we have included different kinds of questions to sharpen your aptitude: to explain, question and review; this will guarantee that you understand and can expound discreetly on the matter in an organized and clear manner. For these assignments there are wide descriptive and investigative inquiries; every task consists of ten questions divided into two segments. In response to a lengthy inquiry worth 20 marks, your answers should be around 500 words each. When it comes to a short inquiry worth 10 marks, it should not exceed 250 words. It would be advisable for you to engage in a group discussion with your co-learners and Academic Counselors in the Study Centers prior to answering these assignments. Keep in mind that you must only exchange ideas among yourselves—not copy answers. Groups dialogues as well as frequent practice with responding to tasks’ inquiries will help you write better answers for exam queries. It is of utmost importance for all responses to be in your own words.
Remember to acquire a receipt from the Study Center when handing in any assignment submitted; if feasible keep an extra photocopy for yourself. The Study Center has the duty of returning the answered assessments after they’ve been judged while sending their respective marks earned by you SR&E Division at IGNOU New Delhi premises.
Some Tips for Doing Assignments
You will find it useful to keep the following points in mind while doing the assignments:
1) Planning: Read the assignments carefully; go through the units on which they are based. Make some
points regarding each question and then rearrange them in a logical order.
2) Organization: Be selective and analytical before drawing up a rough outline of your answer. Give
adequate attention to the introduction and conclusion.
3) Presentation: Once you are satisfied with your answer, you can write down the final version for
submission. Write each answer neatly and underling the points you with to emphasize. Make sure that
the answer is within the stipulated word limit.
