2. Define diphthongs. Explain their characteristics with at least two examples from English. How do they differ from pure vowels?
3. Explain the seven basic sentence patterns in English with appropriate examples.
4. Explain the structure and function of a Verb Phrase in English grammar. Illustrate your answer with appropriate examples.
5. Discuss the concept of multilingualism and its significance in the Indian sociolinguistic context.

SECTION C
Answer the following questions: 2×15=30
1. What are the key features that distinguish human language from animal communication systems? Illustrate your answer with appropriate linguistic concepts and examples.
2. Explain the concept of morphology in linguistics. Discuss the different types of morphemes and their role in word formation, with suitable examples.
